How to Mine Dogecoin and Litecoin at the Same Time (Merged Mining)

Dogecoin and Litecoin merged mining — one Antminer L9 sending Litecoin coins to the left jar and Dogecoin coins to the right jar
  • The shared Scrypt algorithm lets miners send the same computing power to two blockchains at once and collect a double reward.
  • The AuxPoW protocol rescued the Dogecoin network from hashrate swings, and its hashrate reportedly rose by more than 1,500%.
  • Mining pool statistics reported in June 2026 put the rise in miners' daily income at 20 to 30% with zero additional electricity cost (see our profitability comparison for live numbers).

Dogecoin is one of the most popular digital currencies in the world, but did you know that its security depends directly on Litecoin? According to BSC News, a unique technological process links these two coins and makes it possible to mine them at the same time without any increase in electricity costs. That is the idea behind Dogecoin mining with a Litecoin ASIC.

Dogecoin and Litecoin: perfect partners thanks to the Scrypt algorithm

Both networks share the same cryptographic algorithm, Scrypt. This common base lets miners use a process called merged mining (LTC and DOGE together). In practice, powerful hardware produces calculations for the Litecoin network, and the same mathematical solutions can also satisfy the requirements of the Dogecoin network.

The whole principle runs on the Auxiliary Proof-of-Work (AuxPoW) protocol, which developers released in August 2014 and which was active from September 2014. In this relationship Litecoin is the parent network and Dogecoin is the auxiliary network. Miners pack the transactions of both coins into a single bundle and search for the right code.

If they find a valid solution, they write the block into both blockchains at once. Picture it as handing in one university paper to two different professors who accept the same format. You do the work only once, but you earn credits from both sides. The networks then pay out rewards in both coins, which dramatically improves the efficiency of the whole process.

The 2014 security reset and a massive surge in hashrate

Before AuxPoW, the two coins competed for the same miners. Miners kept switching from one network to the other depending on current profitability. Dogecoin therefore faced huge swings in total hashrate, which exposed the network to the risk of a 51% attack.

Developers solved the situation by moving to the shared model. The results came immediately: the hashrate of the auxiliary network reportedly rose by more than 1,500% within a single month. Today the vast majority of its computing power comes from merged mining.

How much money will dual mining bring to your wallet?

Profitability is driven mainly by the fact that the fixed reward for each block is 10,000 DOGE. Because the Dogecoin network produces a new block roughly every minute (Litecoin about every 2.5 minutes), miners get a steady supply of new coins. Litecoin, on the other hand, goes through regular reward halvings, so its emission falls over time. Switching to dual mode therefore makes perfect economic sense.

Miners with modern Scrypt ASIC hardware such as the Bitmain Antminer L9 were reported in June 2026, based on mining pool statistics, to earn 20 to 30% higher daily income. They do not pay a cent more for energy, because the machines do no extra work. ViaBTC and F2Pool coordinate merged mining automatically, so miners do not have to configure complicated software.

Check the numbers yourself: the 20 to 30% figure is a reported snapshot, not a forecast. Daily income depends on LTC and DOGE prices, network difficulty and your electricity price. Use our profitability comparison for a live calculation.

Where to start?

If this topic interests you and you are wondering how to turn electricity into LTC and DOGE, the process is quick. Choosing the right Scrypt ASIC is the first step, and our guide on how to choose the right miner walks you through it. You connect the device to power and to one of the pools that supports merged mining.

For Litecoin and Dogecoin we stock the Antminer L9 in three variants. Prices as of 16 October 2026.

FAQ

Can I mine Dogecoin and Litecoin at the same time?
Yes. Both coins use the Scrypt algorithm, so a Scrypt ASIC can work for both networks at once through merged mining (AuxPoW). The pool handles the coordination, and you receive rewards in both LTC and DOGE.
Does merged mining use more electricity?
No. The machine does the same work and the same solution is accepted by both networks, so power draw stays the same. The extra DOGE comes without extra electricity cost.
How much more can I earn with merged mining?
Mining pool statistics reported in June 2026 put the increase in daily income at 20 to 30% for modern Scrypt ASICs such as the Antminer L9. That figure moves with coin prices and difficulty, so check the live numbers on our profitability comparison page. It is not a promise of income.
Which pools support Litecoin and Dogecoin merged mining?
ViaBTC and F2Pool coordinate merged mining automatically, so you do not need to configure extra software.
